What is Grief Recovery?

Are you suffering from a broken heart? Was it caused by a death, divorce, or the breakup of a romantic relationship? Or was it caused by any of the forty other losses that a person can experience during a lifetime such as the loss of income or health? Regardless of the cause, you know how you feel and it probably isn’t good.

In The Grief Recovery Method: Grief Support Group®, we are not going to tell you, “We know how you feel,” because we don’t. Neither does anyone else. Your feelings are normal and natural. The problem is that we have been socialized to believe that these feelings are abnormal and unnatural. Even if it has been years since a loss and you have hidden it deep in your heart, I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

You may have been influenced to believe that there was something wrong with you, that you were defective. The simple truth is that you may not have much helpful information with which to GRIEVE and COMPLETE the losses that have occurred in your life. Consequently, you may have spent, and continue to spend an inordinate amount of time and energy covering up the painful feelings associated with loss.    This need not be...         The Grief Recovery Institute® and its Grief Recovery Method: Grief Support Group® and The Grief Recovery Method:  One-on-One Program for the Individuals offer a different and effective solution for you.

The Grief Recovery Method: Grief Support Group®  provides a safe environment for participants to take the actions that will lead to completion of the pain attached to losses. You will look at your old beliefs about dealing with loss, what losses have affected your life, and take new actions.  As a result, our participants find that they are able to discover and complete what was left emotionally unfinished due to a death, a divorce, or other major loss.

Why Grief Recovery?

When we lost our daughters, Bethany, Susan and Danielle, it changed our lives. Many people offer their condolences and many more, meaning well, inadvertently say the wrong things. Many give books about grief, ok, it's nice to know we're not the only ones and to read about someone else's story, but how does that help me overcome my grief?

After being miserable for months on end I was ready for something different. I went to a grief group and it was extremely helpful! I went to another grief group, but did not find what I needed there, they seemed to be stuck in their grief, and had their identity as one that lost a loved one, I wanted to get beyond it. Then we sought a counselor which gave me this book: The Grief Recovery Handbook! When I finally got the courage to read it (four years later!) and was ready to move on with my life; Wow! It taught me how to recover; of course you never forget, and there can still be tears and moments of sadness, but not as intense and painful.

Years went by, and every now and then I would look at their website and contemplate getting trained. I finally went for their training.

I am now a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist. I am teaching others how to work through their grief or how to teach their children how to work through their grief.

It sets you free to move on with your life and not be burdened by the past. Don’t waste years of your life like I did, being miserable and unable to function, have courage and the sooner the better.

I welcome you to come join me in a group setting or individually to help you move beyond your grief.
